This is a collaborative blog. Well, let's face it, they all are. But, specifically, this one's a collaboration between me, my friend Camii, and sometimes my brother. Here you'll find waitressing stories, bar quotes, movie reviews, and the occasional cake.

A Fun Night

This week has been an exhausting one. Between a series of early mornings Sunday through Wednesday, working until midnight at the bar Wednesday, a dentist's appointment Thursday, a major assignment due Thursday night, a break-down in communication among the group I was working with for said major assignment, and going from a Hungry Eye meeting (3:00) to the bar (5:00) and, after thinking I'd go home early, being told that Brandi wouldn't be in, thus I was the only one on the floor for a whole Friday night. Yay. Tomorrow I was supposed to be back at the bar at 6:00, thus another long night. Thank George that Julia had pity and offered to cover for me until 9:00 tomorrow.

Now, let me backtrack just a bit:
The Hungry Eye meeting today was a bit frustrating because people weren't staying on track and/or weren't paying attention and/or didn't remember the pieces we were trying to make decisions about. So, by the end of it, I kinda wanted to tell certain people to stop talking/grabbing the papers I was trying to keep sorted. Then I hop in my car and drive to the bar, can't find a good parking spot so I have to walk farther than I like, walk in, go to the bathroom to put on my work shirt, realize it's still in my car... All the while, I'm telling myself "Tonight will be a good night."

Tonight, Brandi's boyfriend was in a car accident and she went to the hospital instead of coming to the bar. Understandable. Doesn't mean I enjoyed being by myself for a whole Friday night. Tonight, there was a Rockies' game and everybody was intent on it, including when I was trying to check on them and they were ignoring me 'cause the game was more interesting. Then, a few more people wandered in and everybody crowded around the bar to see the TV and stood in my way.

I love it when people say "Oh, sorry, I'm in your way" and then they DON'T MOVE out of it. I also love it when the noise of the people + the music on the jukebox combine to create enough volume that I have to yell at my tables to make myself heard. I also love it when a guy stiffs me on the tip twice, then when it's almost closing time and I tell him and his buddy that I'm picking up drinks momentarily, he says "Oh, we'll be done in just a minute." See, it doesn't matter if he's done. I'm picking up drinks. Especially when I get stiffed on the tip. Twice. Alas, they lucked out and finished by the time I was done with chairs.

Tonight was supposed to be a good night. I mean, I often find I end the night in a better mood than I started it (a combination of many things, like being much closer to going home) but tonight I ended the night tired, impatient, and grouchy. Two positives, though: the night is [expletive] over and part of the extra money I made from doing the work of two people is going to go to something indulgenc-y. Something(s) from Bath & Body Works, I think. Yes, that sounds about right.

Yeap, I can tell you work night shifts by the time of your post. =)

Off topic. I clicked on your jewelry link and saw necklaces, beady ones. Then I started to dig further into the site. Awesome. Thanks for the great lead. Some of the homemade stuffed animals cracked me up. I really dig unique sites, especially when they involve shopping. Good find for me!!!

Yeah, the only thing more fun than dealing with frustrating people is dealing with them at one o'clock in the morning :)

Etsy.com has lots of nifty stuff. It's fun to see what-all people come up with.
