This is a collaborative blog. Well, let's face it, they all are. But, specifically, this one's a collaboration between me, my friend Camii, and sometimes my brother. Here you'll find waitressing stories, bar quotes, movie reviews, and the occasional cake.

Oh Gimme a Break: Ladder 49

Chief Kennedy: People are always asking me how is it that firefighters run into a burning building when everyone else is running out. Courage is the answer

Movie Review: Ladder 49. Right. Now you don't have to watch the movie, 'cause that's the whole thing.

I thought this movie might be worth watching 'cause of Joaquin Phoenix. I generally like him and the movies he's in. However, this one is so blatant and hero-worshippy that it's just too much. I like firefighters, respect what they do, heck one of the owners at the bar is a firefighter, a captain, even. However, these characters are all way too perfect and the whole set up of the movie is transparent and maybe it gets better, but I'm not making myself watch any more just to find out. Bah. Skip this one, I'd say.

Go watch some Dexter or Scrubs instead.

I'll second the recommendations on Dexter and Scrubs. Haven't watched Ladder 49 because the ads for it pointed to it being just what you said. Sorry Joaquin. I'll catch you somewhere else.

Dexter is a very bizarre show, I must say. There's that fine line that they walk oh-so-carefully and though I'm only three episodes in, I'm thoroughly hooked. The writers can now do almost anything and I have faith they'll pull it off.
